This project integrates an 11.9-MWh battery energy storage system with solar generation, marking a milestone deployment within the ComEd service area. The system design relies on DC clipping recapture, capturing excess solar production during peak generation hours and shifting it to periods of higher demand.
As the first project of its kind in ComEd, this milestone represents an important step toward Illinois’ goal of deploying 3 GW of battery storage by 2030. By pairing solar with storage, the project transforms intermittent solar generation into a more firm, dispatchable resource, strengthening grid reliability, improving solar utilization, and providing flexible capacity when the system needs it most.
